Have you ever had a teacher or mentor leave an indelible mark on your life? That’s what Smt. Susheela Acharya was, to many of her students. Her name is synonymous with Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth’s Naada Bindu Gurukula campus.
She was a talented singer, composer, lyricist, music Guru, Harmonium accompanist, actress and seamstress. But her true fulfilment lay in composing bhajans for the Chinmaya Mission. She worked with them from the 1970s and transformed the musical careers of many students for the better. Artists like Sri. Shankar Mahadevan and Vidushi Padma Shankar learnt several bhajans from her, and remember her fondly for all her teachings.
When Smt. Susheela Acharya turned 90, we at CVV thought there would be nothing more apt than setting up a fund in her name, so as to remember the legacy of a musician who shared her compositions with one and all, expecting nothing in return – Susheela Acharya Endowment Fund. Since she believed in nurturing musical talent, all donations collected are meant to go towards the education of deserving, underprivileged students who wish to pursue a career in music. Since she passed away early this year, we are currently hosting Susheel Vandan, a series of online gala musical evenings from June 5 to 10, in her memory! Every evening, we have a line-up of renowned performers and budding musicians perform a piece of their choosing.

CVV offers three master’s degree programmes of 2 years each. Students can choose to specialise in Tabla, Bansuri or Hindustani Vocal. Our programmes attract students from all over the world.
